EFR First Aid at Work Course information

The Emergency First Response (EFR) First Aid at Work (Great Britain) course is a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved first aid course for the purpose of meeting the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. This programme meets the statutory needs of employers in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland needing at least one first aider on the premises.

The Emergency First Response First Aid at Work (Great Britain) course is customised to UK Resuscitation Council basic life support protocols and nationally accepted first aid protocols and is based upon proven instructor led delivery methods. The course has its own study/reference materials.

Low hazard assessment: emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
Course duration: 6 hours. 1 days, 2 half days or 3 evenings/day sessions
Study Materials: Includes Student Manual
Final certification: After successfully completing a final assessment, students will receive a certificate valid for three years.

Course content:

  • Understand the role of the first aider, infection control, record keeping and use of equipment.
  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries

Refresher courses: 1 day
Although not required, the HSE strongly recommends that first aiders undertake an annual refresher during any three-year FAW/EFAW certification.

DSC - Digital Select Calling is part of the new GMDSS - Global Maritime Distress and Safety System. Based in the London Docklands in West India Quay, Canary Wharf, London, E14 we are just a short distance from the City by either the Jubilee Line to Canary Wharf, or the DLR - Docklands Light Railway to West India Quay or Westferry. We can offer evening or weekend courses. This qualification is ideal for BSAC clubs with their own RIB's, Diver Coxswains, small boats, kayaks, canoes, jet skis, or yachts. If you are chartering a boat/yacht you will need a RYA Marine VHF license.
