RYA Short Range Certificate for VHF - DSC
This one day/two evening course covers operation of marine VHF radios fitted with Digital Selective Calling (DSC). As part of the Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS) the DSC facility automates many of the procedures traditionally carried out on channel 16. This qualification is a mandatory requirement for anyone wishing to use the new generation of DSC/GMDSS radios. The course assumes no prior knowledge, and covers all the theory required combined with practical experience on our training radios. It is suitable for any marine leisure user - including; windsurfers, kayakers, jet ski, kite surfers etc.

Radios used: Icom M505, Icom M471, handheld Icom M71

Course cost £70 + £25 RYA examination fee - Please bring a recent passport sized photograph with you.

Private courses available from £90 + £25 RYA fee

If you are a club and would like us to train you at your location, please contact us. Group discounts may be available. Allow a minimum of two weeks to enable us to apply for an Ofcom license for your location.

DSC - Digital Select Calling is part of the new GMDSS - Global Maritime Distress and Safety System. Based in the London Docklands in West India Quay, Canary Wharf, London, E14 we are just a short distance from the City by either the Jubilee Line to Canary Wharf, or the DLR - Docklands Light Railway to West India Quay or Westferry. We can offer evening or weekend courses. This qualification is ideal for BSAC clubs with their own RIB's, Diver Coxswains, small boats, kayaks, canoes, jet skis, or yachts.
